Siliguri, March 4: Bhupendra Pradhan, the GTA chairman and Gorkha Janmukti Morcha leader, was arrested last night by Siliguri police for alleged involvement in trying to sell a fake antique coin to a Jalpaiguri resident.
Bhupendra, better known as Pradip, has been remanded in jail custody for five days.
Ten other persons were also arrested in the case from the same Siliguri hotel where Pradhan was found.
Pradhan and his party have alleged that the arrest was politically motivated and he had been falsely implicated in the case.
Sources said, last month, a Jalpaiguri resident had struck a deal with two youths for an "antique coin".
"On February 23, Ravi Kithania from Jalpaiguri had approached Sanjib Maitra of Baghajatin Colony in Siliguri, and Sachin Biswakarma, who is from Gorubathan in Kalimpong subdivision.
Kithania had learnt that the duo had an antique coin and agreed to pay Rs 13 lakh for it. The same day, he paid an advance of Rs 50,000 to the two youths and it was decided that on March 3, he will pay the remaining amount and the coin would be handed over to him," O.G. Pal, the deputy commissioner of Siliguri metropolitan police, said.
"We are yet to collect information about Kithania on whether he is a coin collector and why he agreed to pay such a hefty sum for the coin. We have seized the coin from the two youths," she said.
Police sources said the two youths had claimed that the coin with them was a "rice puller coin" minted by the East India Company in 1818.
The rice puller coins, made of iridium and copper, are attributed various properties, seemingly magical, but with no scientific basis.
Yesterday, Kithania and one of his friends reached the hotel at Darjeeling More here for the coin. "They met Sachin and Sanjib, along with nine others, including the GTA chairman. The two youths introduced the nine others as associates. When the coin was shown, Kithania's friend, who had some knowhow on antique coins, examined it. He declared it was a fake. They asked the youths to return the money that was paid in advance," the police source said.
Sachin and Sanjib allegedly expressed reluctance in returning the money and insisted that the coin was an original. Kithania informed Pradhannagar police station and later, filed a complaint alleging cheating against all 11 persons, including Pradhan.
Following the complaint, Pradhan, Sachin and Sanjib and eight others were arrested. One of the arrested is Deep Thapa, a member of Gorkha Janmukti Yuva Morcha.
"Charges under Sections 120B (punishment for criminal conspiracy) and 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property) have been brought against them. The court ordered five days' police remand to Sachin and Sanjib. The other nine have been remanded in jail custody for five days," Sudip Roy Basunia, the assistant public prosecutor of Siliguri, said.
Pradhan, a GTA Sabha member of Phoobshering-Pandam constituency near Lebong in Darjeeling, said he was innocent. "It is a conspiracy by the administration against me. I have been wrongly implicated," he said.
Morcha assistant secretary Binay Tamang said the incident looked like a political conspiracy. "Our party has planned a dharna in Delhi from March 9 to 17 and the timing of the arrests suggests it is a political conspiracy to thwart our agitation."

HITESH BABA ( Barkas baba)
Hyderabad Income Tax officers are in for a big shock when they were investigating the case of city based businessman Banapuram Laxman Rao (BLR), who earlier declared Rs.9,800 Crore black money under Income Declaration Scheme but failed to pay first installment tax.
IT sleuths searched his house in Film Nagar yesterday and found clues of Laxman Rao having connection with Barkas Baba alias Baba Shaukat Ali from Barkas, Hyderabad. Further investigations revealed that Barkas Baba and his gang trapped BLR in their net using rice pulling coins.
Baba told him to arrange huge sum for buying rice pulling coins exploiting on BLR’s blind belief weakness. Actually, rice pulling coins are antique metal objects supposedly attract rice grains. These coins made of iridium are assumed to have magical powers and can bring good fortunes or can be sold to space research organizations at Crores value.
BLR believed in Barkas Baba, gave him hundreds of crores by opening six to seven fake companies registered on BLR name waiting for foreign based space research organizations to approach him. In this process, BLR declared 9,800 Crores worth black money under IDS scheme assuming foreign funds flow into BLR corporate accounts. At the final hour, Barkas Baba gang escaped from scene and BLR is deep buried in financial debts with nearly Rs.400 to 500 Crores loans pending for repayment.
An interesting black money case to be solved under IDS has now become a notorious cheating Barkas Baba case.

RUDRA JI,
Two people were arrested on charges of duping a businessman by selling him a metal ‘device’ claimed to have ‘several magical properties’ including drawing rice grains.
Ramprasad, (42) from Salem in Tamil Nadu and Jobi Jose (37) of Wayanad had allegedly swindled Rs 28 lakh from the businessman in Aluva by offering the ‘rice puller’.
The accused, in the guise of operating a company named Antique Rare Emperor Minerals Private Ltd, had posted an advertisement online to sell rice pullers. The victim contacted the accused over phone, who in turn, offered to provide the ‘device’ and help him sell it at a price as high as Rs 3 crore.
The complainant was told that the ‘rice puller’ is an alloy of copper and iridium and used by agencies like Nasa in space satellites for generating energy. He was made to pay Rs 28 lakh in instalments.

Victim was promised profit of ₹50 crore as part of the deal
Kalamboli police have booked six men for cheating a 40-year-old businessman of ₹1.09 crore.
The accused have been identified as Anil Sali, director of Seizetech Antique Private Limited, his partner Rajiv Mukherjee, company coordinator Sajjad Shaikh, radiation checkers Sujav and Ranbeer, and Raju Mandal, a resident of Kolkata.
The complainant, Ashfaq Hussain Miya Khamse, a resident of Kharghar, said Mr. Sali called him in March last year and offered to deal to buy a metal called ‘rice puller’. The metal made of copper and iridium was apparently highly valuable and used for generating energy.
Senior police inspector Raju Sonawane said, “Mr. Sali met Mr. Khamse and told him that he bought the metal and sold it for crores of rupees to other countries. He told Mr. Khamse he was willing to buy the metal if he could find it.”
Mr. Khamse was promised a profit of ₹50 crore if he made an initial investment of ₹1.09 crore. A few days later, Mr. Mandal called Mr. Khamse and told him that he had found reserves of the metal in a village in Kolkata. He sent air tickets to Mr. Khamse and later showed him the metal.
When Mr. Khamse informed Mr. Sali of the discovery, he arrived in Kolkata with Mr. Mukherjee, Sujav and Ranbeer.
Mr. Sonawane said, “Mr. Sali examined the metal and told Mr. Khamse that it emitted high frequency radiation. He said a coating of a chemical available only with the Defence Research and Development Organisation had to be applied on the metal. He said the chemical would cost 1% of the market value of the metal, which was ₹100 crore.” Mr. Khamse then paid ₹1.09 crore to Mr. Sali to buy the chemical.
Mr. Sali and his partner soon stopped taking Mr. Khamse calls. When he demanded his money back, Mr. Sali paid him ₹19 lakh and warned him not to ask for more. Mr. Khamse then registered a case with Kalamboli police on Wednesday. The Economic Offences Wing Unit II has started investigating the case.

Dear Rahul,
Your impression in regards with R.P. is totally WRONG. THERE are deals happening and people are paid even. It is just because of your lack of knowledge you have developed such impression. If you want to enter this field of SUPER ANTIQUES it is my advise that ,you first gather the knowledge of the products you want to deal in. Due to high value of amount involved , there are SCAMMERS prevailing in this Market. And to safeguard your personal interest you should must be capable enough and knowleagable in all aspects. If you are not holding proper knowledge than there are 100% chances of you getting scammed. So try to grab the knowledge first and than after indulge yourself in this field.

Rice puller’ scam: Two arrested for duping people on pretext of testingThe complainant, Narender, is a businessman. He said Virender Mohan Brar told him the testing would be done by “scientists of Defence Research and Development Organisation” who “worked for him”, and asked him to invest for huge profits.
They signed a deal and Narender paid Rs 87.2 lakh as fees for scientists and the cost of arranging special anti-radiation suits and chemicals that the scientists would wear while testing the device. Later, he was made to sign another deal and paid Rs 51.1 lakh.
Later, Narender realised that the “DRDO scientists” were working for Brar for just Rs 20,000. He then filed a complaint and the father and son were arrested.
“Rice puller is a non-existent thing,” said Alok Kumar, the joint commissioner of police (crime branch). “The cheats take a copper plate or utensil and coat it with liquid magnet, and then fill some boiled rice with small iron filings and fool the victim by pulling the rice grain towards the magnet-coated copper article.”
The crime branch of the Delhi Police has arrested a father and son for allegedly cheating a man of Rs 1.43 crore on the pretext of testing a “rice puller” device, which, they claimed, they would later sell to United States’ space agency NASA, PTI reported on Wednesday. Police said they had duped at least 30 people from Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand.
The accused, Virender Mohan Brar and his son Nitin Mohan Brar, had claimed they wanted to test the device, a “rare piece of copper struck by thunderbolt giving it the power to pull rice”. They had allegedly told the complainant that if the test was successful, they would sell it to the National Aeronautics and Space Administration for Rs 37,500 crore.
